The answer is totally dependent on the soil you are attempting to remove. Restaurant type food grease will respond better to an alkaline. Yet, bathroom tiles that are soap scummy respond better to a mild form of acid. If you are only maintaining then a neutral product is the best.
Our Grout Smart has Hydrogen Peroxide in it that adds brilliance and brighten yet is is a very safe product. |

Use a alkaline or degreaser. Then you can follow these chems with an acid if needed

What Mark said. In a kitchen, I usually use both: alkaline followed by acid. Most of the time, acid alone is enough. Just be sure to reseal the grout.

Stay away from acids with natural stone. We use a bath mat sprayed with an alkaline pre spray to wipe our feet before heading out to another surface like cement. Leaving footprints down the clients sidewalk is bad for business.

I forgot acids are great for grout lines especially if you use a grout brush since they will take a very small amount of cement off and get you back to new, clean grout.

I prefer Alkaline in surface cleaning to acid. Acid sometimes damage the surface. Any way it depends on the flooring material.

Yes, the main use of acid is on grout lines. You can use it on natural stone but only if it is already completely matte, like slate. Otherwise, you'll etch away the patina/shine.

High ph cleaners are more safe to work with and avoid secondary damage such as over spray or vapor fumes off acid
