200 sq ft how long should it take??

I mentioned earlier in another post, that it takes me around 30 mins to do 600 sq ft of carpet(not including Setup)...The average room is around 200 ft...so basically 3 rooms in 30 mins.....So people said "no way" so I took the time to figure it out today of course while I was cleaning....

I guess it all depends on the height of the Cleaner...I'm 6'-2" tall....my wand stroke is about 5 1/2 feet long , with a one foot wide wand...I timed my strokes 3sec up 3sec down...so about 6 seconds a stroke...so the average of 10 strokes per min.....

I took of 1/2 a foot per stroke for overlapping so that works out to 25 sq ft per min.....

200 / 25 = 8 min per room

ok make it 10 mins so 30 mins for 600 sq ft sounds reasonable to me...

This was on average well maintained carpets....using a truck monut running at 400 psi with 15 hg....

I guess if I was shorter it would take me a lot longer...or the carpets where dirty...

what do you think too fast???

Not icluding setup time...that means run hoses and pre-spray..this is based on an empty room....most times when I confirm the calls I tell the customer to move as much as possible...most times I move very little....the customer has done it all for me...less chance of anything getting damaged from moving... most comply if you tell them to.....

Actually I like only to hit the carpet only once in any given area..I feel getting it to wet is a bad thing......

I will prep a high traffic area a little different....I will pre-spray a lot heavier in the area...I will agitate it...I'll use a few terry cloths to help pick up more soiling(thank you padman) something I've just started to do because of this forum...and truth be known it works wonders....but for the most part I'll go a lot slower on the extraction passes in that area...I may go over it, but not as a regular practice...only if I'm not satisfied with how it looks.......never had a problem....

Truth be told...we very rarely meet any really dirty dirty carpets 10% tops

Do they setup your truck also, pull the hoses, treat the spots? What's left about .15 to.18 sq. ft. Most home owners will not do much of a job vaccuuming so you might just as well say the carpets are not vaccummed so don't kid yourself or anyone else on this board. As far as movng furniture we prefer they only move the small nic nacs as in most cases unless they can move everything out of the room they only make more work. If one person cannot move it it stays.  We don not move beds, wall units or sound systems. We are not in the furniture moving business we are in the cleaning business.

No they move the stuff right out...sometimes it's just the couches...sometimes even the couches are gone...everything is done for when I get there....I tell them...I'm a cleaner not a mover

a mover makes 150 per hour...give me clear carpet and I'll clean it

you take a bath and change your underwear before you go to the doctor?

you move and vac before the carpet cleaner gets there..

It's just they way it is
