has any one used odercide 210? they claim to be green, and I think they are, but I was reading about odoban, I used to use it a lot, and it claims to be an "earth choice" product, but it's horrible for you. works well, but still it seems like anything can be marketed as green.

so much mis-conceptions of what is health safe for cleaning. ammonia is about as natural as you can get, but breathing it isn't too good for you, while other lab created chemicals are perfectly inert, but are not natural.  come on people, natural can kill too!

Sometimes I wonder if when we market carpet cleaning as green if people want to use us because it's nice on the planet or just good for their indoor air quality and health.

I swear I could have a van burning diesel, leaking oil, and just fuming with toxic chemicals outside a house, and long as what was in the house is health safe, the customer couldn't care less how much I am contributing to a toxic watershed, or greenhouse gasses.

Look at the MSDS sheet --- what is the health hazzard?  Do they put their claims in writing?

That to be honest is my real reason.  I want to live with a quality of life, not quantity.

And now for the realistic side of the coin.  Indoor air quality is many times worse that outdoor air quality to begin with.  So customers who are truly concerned with indoor air quality should have specialized products that properly filter their indoor air.  (http://www.frigidaire.net/indoorairquality.asp  - "According to studies by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, indoor levels of airborne pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasionally 100 times, higher than outdoor levels")  Now, if the water you're using to 'steam' clean carpets with is hot enough to create some levels of steam, which it really should be, then the cleaning product you pre-sprayed with is going to vaporize to some extent as well.  We've all worked in small enclosed spaces and coughed our guts out as the air fills up with steamy pre-spray.  I don't care what you use, it's made for cleaning the carpet, not for lining your lung tissue, or watering your tomato plants for that matter.  So ultimately, imho, what really matters is the cleaner's health since he's the one working with the products all day.  Next, the customer's health, especially if they are hypersensitive or have allergies or asthma.  But we all have to agree that carpet cleaning products, whether MSDS-happy or not, are not going to make indoor air quality much worse for the average home-dweller than it already is.  Especially if they crack open the windows during and/or after your cleaning.  I always encourage my customers to crack the windows for extra air circulation simply for the drying time factor.  But this will also circulate the indoor air with a percentage of outdoor air, not only pulling some vaporized cleaning agents out of the house, but also bringing in the cleaner outdoor air, thus raising their indoor air quality. . . even if only until the carpets dry and they close the windows again.
My point is: to be so concerned about the different levels of 'bad' in our cleaning products and believing that the 'good' ones really are good, is to be concerned about negligible differences.  In the end, the earth will outlive a carpet cleaner and his products, the home owner will not be able to quantify the levels of air pollutants before and after you clean their carpets, and the MSDS is not the final word in the practical world.  So pick a product you feel comfortable with, explain how great it is to your customer, have them open a couple windows in the house for a few hours, and dump your dirty water where the least amount of people are going to get on your case about it.  Everybody wins.

Anyone see the latest tests done on the so called Green Laundry Detergents. None of them where even close to being Green.  These where the name brand products, just because people label there products as Green does not mean they are GREEN!!!!!!!!!  There are a million shades of green, and I see no reason why a lot of the carpet cleaning products that are called green may well be yellow or some other shade of green.   As Dr Berry said awhile back it could well be a marketing ploy to sell more products
