Nightrider; Yes for the most part we are price shoppers. Except for me and many others like me when it comes to having work done in the home. When I want something done I research who I want to do it. That is enough for me. I do not ask price. I want quality not quantity. I may not represent the majority however my family, friends, and former customers all did business that way. There is a market!

If you have allowed people to dictate the price you charge, Ya from your world " All " people are price shoppers. But from my world and from many cleaners who have taken a slow solid growth approach the customers we have are loyal for the most part. (you lose one once in a while) and their friends are good solid leads, they may ask roughly how much this is going to run, So that they are not shocked but they usually always book the cleaning and never mention price again.
Steamer, A person should be able to make a "Very Nice " living off of 2000 customers, you are underselling yourself and not weeding out the bottom end. I solved some of this in my business over 10 years ago or so by giving myself a yearly raise ( Price increase) I had gone 15 years or so with almost no " Raises" . Give yourself a raise and never look back... IMO The clientele improves automatically as you raise your rates. Each person has their own ideas and that is what makes this a great place. |

" But we are all price shoppers, The Rich, The not so Rich, & The Poor." ( Nightrider)
I HAVE FOUND A NICE GROUP OF REFERRAL BUSINESS (and it is not all my business) that they do not really price shop. They have been referred and if I am good enough for so and so I am good enough for them. and if john Smith thinks I'm the best that's good enough for them . No questions asked . I have tried to build my business on those customers and not the ones that I have to promise 15% below the lowest price to get the business. (Night Rider )" People don't dictate what prices should be charged......THE MARKET DOES. " This is not 100% true. Many carpet cleaners allow the customers to beat them up on price.( to dictate ) Even though the average market is at say .22 some cleaners allow the customer to make them feel that they are not worthy of that price. That Joe Blow cleaning will do it for X number of dollars etc. allowing that to happen is letting the people dictate. I just tell them that we do not price match, that we have been in the business for 25 years and that we know what we are doing. and that If they wish to go with the lower price they risk the chance that the other cleaner will not be cleaning to our standards.... it is totally up to you mam what type of cleaning you are willing to pay for. What time of the week is best for you, mam? Oh , Tuesday or Thursday , OK I have a 9:30 Tuesday Morning will that work for you ? etc. etc. If they are not referred sometimes the only thing they know how to ask is what do you charge? |
