What's the difference Kenny?? What if it was plug head for a slide in unit??

I thought maybe somebody would share their experience with me if they had used a Heli Coil before.(Kenny?)

No big deal I will find the info someplace else!

Worth a shot!

My experience is with the smaller heli Coils(I actually install them in some of my glides). The larger ones you need for your application in the harder materials may be different. I don't want to mis-lead you Hammy.

yet again I know more than kenni.

I've installed them on outboard motor sparkplug applications.  Should be similar (about the same size in cast aluminum).

It's pretty easy.  However I had removed the head from the engine, so chip contamination in the engine was eliminated.  Can you remove the oilpan or is it all one piece on the case?  I'd recomend doing this as you have to drill, tap and break off a small piece of the heli-coil.  getting this stuff into the oilpan would not recomended.

All you do is drill the hole oversize (per instructions for the final thread size), then tap the new hole.  Using the insertion tool, thread the heli-ciol into the tapped hole.  Then break off the tang that you used to install the coil.

Glad to help.  Just follow the directions on the heli-coil kit.

One other tip...be sure to use a tapping fluid when tapping Aluminum.  Get one specifically for Aluminum, as cast Aluminum will gall easily if you don't.
