After cleaning my carpets two weeks ago or so I noticed there was a pink dot in the carpet after the carpet had dried. I never noticed it before but figured it might have been a marker stain or something that I never noticed before. Today I actually got down on the floor to examine it up close and I noticed a few more tiny pink spots like it on the other side of the room.

I know the first time I cleaned the carpets I made a newbie mistake and didn't use carpet rinse, but I don't really think that's the problem because if it were I should have red spots throughout the house rather then just confined to one area. The area did have urine spots from a dog so maybe this has something to do with it? In the one spot there is a faint teal/dark green spot or two as well. It's not like the entire carpet is pink, it's only a few random spots and the pink spots are about the size of a raindrop. The biggest pink spot is about half the size of a dime.

I'm just wondering why these spots appeared and if there is any way of getting the pink out without dying the carpet. The carpet is old in the room this happened in (22 years) and it isn't the highest quality carpet. I'm just curious to know if it's from something I did or if it's just the carpet.

Maybe they just wicked up.  Maybe they are bleach spots.  Maybe they are mold.
Hard to say.  We would be guessing.  We can't see the spots.

Thanks for the help, Soil Lint Green. I'd take a picture of the spot but I doubt you could tell from a picture and plus it would be hard for the stain to show up since it's so faint.

At first I thought it might of been a wick back, but I wasn't sure. 9 chances out of 10 it was because the room was only cleaned by bonnet pad before. Hopefully the next time I clean I can remove it, depending upon what it is. I did read somewhere that Benzol Peroxide could turn pink when you try to remove it so if that was in the carpet that maybe what it is.

Back to my days sitting in Chemistry I thought maybe I altered the carpets Ph with the chemical since I didn't properly rinse the first time. So I sprayed some rinse onto the spot and tried to work it in with a rag. Seemed to remove the color somewhat but I don't know if it really helped or not.

Have you done a ph test on the stain?

No I have not done a Ph test on the stain. In order to do one, do I just need one of those electric Ph meters, or is there more to it?

So I've got an update to this and it's for the best.

I highly doubted the spots were from the chemical because after all the carpet I cleaned, I should have had more pink spots, or even have big patches of pink compared to just dots in one isolated area.

I asked my mom about it and she said that those stains were there before I cleaned. I guess all the dirt over the years covered them up since they were faint, and I emailed the place I got the chemicals from to ask for their opinion and they said it would be impossible for it to happen with the chemical I used. They said the same thing: the spots were there already but were covered by all the dirt.

I'm just glad I didn't ruin the carpet and that the spots weren't from me.
