Waldo , do you charge by the room or square footage?
What do you get in your area?

I Run 24 cents per square foot , 10 for protector ( should be higher)
2.00 a step- just went up from 1.25

Today I had 5.5 hours of cleaning ran about 390 somthing . I try to
maintain 75.00 Hour . I get close using those rates.

I'm glad I don't have alot of national franchise price slashers in our area.
although after 23 years I don't pay much attention to everyone else.

Steamer

min. charge is the MINIMUM

I just raised mine to $65 as well

I also raised my residential cleaning price from .25 to .28

there are plenty of lowballers here

but like danmark I don't pay attention to others prices........it's a good way for me to weed out the cheapo's by raising prices and keeping loyal customers.

still gotta work on raising my commercial rates

You have to prove yourself first.... you need a loyal following...

This is clearly a spring special... not low balling RUNNING A SPECIAL to generate calls...

and the truth is not everyone is booking the small call I have some big ones here..

the Job average is 87 dollars... that oks for me....

small business owners think small...I just think

Zero, Do you tell them over the phone, BEFORE you get to the house what
the 10.99 includes and what is doesn't include. and what all these extras
cost, prior to setting up the appointment????? Or do you place them in a
postion, once on the jobsite, that they must deal with paying up for add
ons or end up with the bare basics.

You charge to pre-spray ???? and say that's not bait and switch

If they don't pay for pre-spray what do you do ???????? clean with plain
water and no pre-conditioning at all. And this is professional?

Give me a break.

Steamer,
Because you are better! Why do people buy cadillac when a ford may get
them there just as fast.

What you seem to be saying Steamer is if someone goes down to 5.00 per
room you need to do likewise. Having the lowest prices in town is not a
worthy GOAL.

That is the attitude that keeps prices low in your area.

Here, I charge what I want to charge to make the 75.00 per machine hour
I set for my goal. I develop working relationships with my customers.
Similar to who cuts your hair, usually you don't price shop ever time you
need a hair cut. You have loyalty to people if you feel you received what
you paid for . ( and a little extra)

Explain why your system is better, If it's not better then maybe you don't
deserve more?? Make sure you are doing a better job.

I charge .24 per sq. foot and will be higher if gas keeps going up.

I changed attitudes about 15 years ago and I don't look back. . Raise
prices every year by at least .02. and keep in touch with your customer
by postcard or newletter, then they have a tendancy to develop loyalty.

IMO

What area of the GTA do you live in Steamer????

I also live and work in the GTA.  I also have tried the high priced call, it doesn't work.

Don't worry Steamer if you're any good they'll still call you if your prices go up.

They would always ask me why I charged more than the rest. I got a lot of inquires but no bookings

I went from cleaning cat urine infested trailer houses to $300-750,000
homes by targeting the level of customer you eventually want.

It takes time, but spending an extra 1/2 hour at a high end customers
house by paying strict attention to detail is worth it. Post calling the
customer to make sure they are satisfied and leaving a free bottle of
spotter helps

Telling them straight up. " If you are satisfied with our service please tell
a friend, we really apprecaite it " . doesn't hurt either

Using my software to key in on the best customers to target is an
excellant way I use to improve my business . This software will be
publically available for testing shortly.

Why work harder and harder for less . That isn't why we run our own
businesses.

It's all the market that you want to be in...I myself work only in up-scale homes...they don't ask price...their checks don't bounce...their carpet is never that dirty...and they use my services 2-3 times per year...of course, I treat them with respect and I don't gouge them on prices and I don't come in the door trying to sell them all these add-ons...heck, most of the time they are not even home...they just leave a blank check and a note on what to clean...they like it that way...and so do I
