I have a few simple steps for newbies to the business.....

*always try to be right on time

*a uniform is nice, but if you don't have one...blue work clothes

*smile

*let the customer show you the whole area to be cleaned, let them pinpoint all the stains...ask them what they want to have moved....insist that they move their own breakables

*pre-spray always always always ...using a mild(yes mild) soap nothing to radical on the pH scale ...soap in your fresh water tank is a NO NO

*don't just hold the trigger all the time...it's never good to over wet.....if the carpet is soaking wet when your done ...your in for trouble

*if you move something pad or block it, no one wants metal or wood rust on their carpet..get behind the doors...thats the first place they'll check

* always carry a spot bottle and a clean rag right on your person, to hit those stubborn spots

* have 4-6 drop cloths.....a few drop cloths through the house will make you look very prefessional....it makes the job

* don't rush...push that wand at an even pace

*booties are nice but dangerous...have a good clean extra pair of shoes...let the customer see you changing your shoes at the door...they be impressed

*hit that door mat on the way out..they just eat that up

overwetting is the biggest problem in carpet cleaning with steam or hwe

furniture is a little different...more things to watch for...ie color, fabric, buttons, wood framing.....just remember what ever your cleaning just don't over wet..
