I signed up for a half page...but they are taking so long with an approvable art work I just feel like to cancel the whole darn thing....it runs around $600 bucks a month...400,000 homes but they give you their own phone number so they can track the calls. they promise at least 6 calls per month...to cover the ad

I put my prices on the ad so I wouldn't get unwanted calls...LOL I noticed they didn't like that  so it's taken them forever to get me a proof.

I've read nothing but negative things about advertising there, but still everyone around here still has an ad.

They do it for the first year only....  6 calls, they say some people don't get any calls.  They give you a list of everyone that called your number once a month. If you don't get the calls they will refund your money at the end of the year.

I put my prices on the ad to stop the shopper from calling me... do you think it will work?

Funny thing. Someone from YP contacted me about phoning a carpet cleaner in the GTA about 6 times a month, just last week. I am thinking wether I want to do it. $50/month is not bad money for just 6 calls.

Simple Doug. Mr Steamer is not content for people to think he has the lowest pricing in the GTA, he wants to prove it to the world?

all joking aside... to cut down on price shoppers...  they won't call looking for the price when it's printed right in the ad.  If the price is on the ad they just be calling to book.  They will also use my ad as a price point and call everyone else.

No one has any pricing on their ad, I think this move is to my advantage.

The lowest price thing is funny, but man I need some serious ideas.  Lets forget all the joking around and tell me what you really think.

other than design what will help you stand out???

I put on a whole house package 5 Rooms/Hall/Steps for $140
sofa/loveseat/chair for $140
Area Rug at $1.50 per sq ft
Tile & Grout cleaning Starting at $1.50 per sq ft

I'm listening

I think with a good post card campaign and  a good yellow page ad is a good combo, I'm not sure about the price. It could work though!

The sites that promise you traffic or have you pay per click, they do that.  Had a yellow page rep call me about a flier she got.  Wants to make sure they are getting the best coverage for me.

As Joe Polish pointed out, send somebody to your YP ad and you just sent them to your competition as well.  I go with single line, not even bold.  Listed under Ripoff Artists.

With Comcast Digital Voice (yes, they do business phone too) I can see the complete accounting of calls received, missed, placed and voicemail stored on their drives.  How can the YP prove that the calls were as a result of ad and not from your own efforts, referrals, etc?

I am canceling my yellow pages ads on Tuesday.
Now for Peel book only it may be another story for you Steamer. However we have found that the calls just aren't coming in anymore.

"They give you a phone number for the Ad.. one that they track and if forwarded to your business line"

I hate to seem negative, but in the case of individuals, knowing there is no DNC on business listings, working the yellow pages with their pitch targetting all cleaning companies.  Do they count as 1 of 6?  Customers who lost your number and use the yellow pages to find it and call you about a repeat, do they count as 1 of 6?

In one case, you don't know the person and stand to make no income from them.  It would be like getting spammed.  In the second case you already paid for that account with your other marketing efforts, they are in your inner circle.

54 Carpet cleaners in Lane County, Oregon
327,000 Residents with an average age of 38
81,000 owner occupied and 49,000 rentals which includes over 20,000 college students
Median Household income is only $37,000 however target market of ages 35-54 is $47,000
We have room for growth if we can get people to think that you don't get your carpets cleaned just twice - when the daughter is born and when she gets married

I want my ad for free...I don't want the price shoppers to call me...if I don't get 6 calls I don't have to pay.  The price Idea is to stop the price shoppers.  I hate when the phone rings so much for nothing just answering stupid question, and giving quotes.

I let my answering machine catch the call and screen out the time wasters.  If somebody does want pricing, I pick a time I think they won't be around and leave my own message, this time with a out of this world high price.  I don't want price shoppers, I want people who want a great job done at the right price.  Also, if a competitor is having an employee collect pricing information to help them set their own pricing .... bummer dude, bad data.
