Why did he come back to Canada after all those years?

Simple. He saw an opportunity to seize power. When your potential competitors for the job are people like Stephan Dion and Bob Rae who wouldn't? With the Tories lead by Harper, who wouldn't see a straight path to the top.

That is simple as well. Just play the Star Spangled Banner. He will stop whatever he is doing and come right to attention, completly forgetting which country he is attempting to lead.
