How long are you booked in advance? How long is too long to keep potential customers waiting? How many jobs do you book a day and still leave time for extras.  I know this can vary from place to place and method to method.  Just a few questions reagarding what some consider good service.Guitar

Mr. Steamer:I would think a two week wait should be the max.  If longer maybe  more equipment or people is needed. Over two weeks is certainly not the best service.Guitar

Mr. Steamer:  I do not mean people that call and book an appointment for a month or so down the road.  I mean as the calls come in.Guitar

Week or two is great, more than that you have two choices, more men and equipment or higher prices.

I have a friend down in Florida booked SOLID for 3 months in advance, but he REFUSES to raise prices....hummm!

Padman:  What has price got to do with it? If people book him for a date so what?  People who want something done in a couple of weeks don't wait 3 months.  Oh I forgot he must clean with op so three month wait  would be not out of the norm.Guitar

Two weeks is about right.I try to keep it at around two weeks by doing
the following .

I try to maintain a good relationship with my competitors. I feel it makes
things alot less stressful being able to wave at a competitor rather than
being flipped off by them.

Anyway, one of my competitors and I feed each other. When he gets too
many customers or a customer that needs it done today or tommorrow
and he can't get to it , he refers me and I do the same for him. We know
of each others methods and quality work.

I tell his customers that we would be cleaning as a favor to ___________
and that they should return to him next time. He does the same for me
when I'm in a bind. It has worked very well. Now my nephew has gotten
into the business and we will also be able to do some of the same.

This may not work for everyone , but it does for us.

Danmarck  Your lucky to have that trust. Here in the big city cut throat is on everybody's minds. Hand shaking also went out in the 60's.

Steamer, of COURSE HWE can have three week waiting times, however THINK ABOUT THIS, you can call a 100 HWE guys ANYTIME, however Padders a bit harder to find, once you use them and want them you are willing to wait.

That just gets back to the niche market you don't like hearing about.

When you think about it neither of us loses that customer to possibly an
outsider, with the chance of never seeing thim again. This way we tend to
keep our customers!!! And by getting along we have ordered chemical
in in larger volume to save freight etc.. Sounds weird, I'm sure, but it
works.

What you guys have enjoyed on the forum ( talking SHOP) , we once in
while enjoy in person. It's always fun to talk shop... and if you guys
always keep your distance from all you competitors you don't get that
opportunity.

danmark:  I have reccommended  one of my competitors before and had people say they will wait.   Being in a small area little different.  I told someone I am not interested in continueing cleaning their home because of various reasons and??  Most of their friends drop us because they make up some line of bull about us.  At that point it takes a couple of years to set the record strait.  The rollercoaster ride go around and around and up and down.Guitar

I have been booking leather restoration jobs for Jan and Feb since August.

As Padman points out, they have no choice but to wait.

Just booked another one today $1,000 job to be done in late January.

I try to book an appointment when requested or as close to being requested, I set up 4 jobs a day and that leaves me time to do 2 more that day when someone calls and says "I only have 2 rooms that need cleaning or my child got sick", I feel if you put a cust. off to long you stand a chance of losing him or her, and every cust you lose will cost you $100.00 to get back, maybe not in cash but in profit.

As a carpet cleaning business, it's advisable to maintain a flexible booking system that caters to both advance scheduling and last-minute requests. During peak seasons or promotional periods, we encourage customers to book several weeks ahead to ensure availability and preferred time slots.

Additionally, transparent communication about your schedule and offering alternatives can contribute to customer satisfaction. Balancing flexibility and proactive scheduling allows for efficient business management while meeting customer needs.
