Once a
textile surface has been properly cleaned, the job is not
complete until that surface is protected. In addition to
unsightly appearance, soil is a destructive force promoting
fiber abrasion, which can result in permanent appearance
reduction. Fiber protectors not only make the professional
cleaner's job easier, they also make the routine vacuuming
more productive. The more complete the process of routine dry
soil removal, the longer the useful life of carpet and
upholstery fabrics.
Pre-Cleaning
Inspection
Qualification prior to cleaning is the best time
to promote carpet and upholstery protectors. This is your
opportunity to illustrate where protection is most needed and
why. Point out to the customer areas where spots and stains
are concentrated as well as the prominent appearance
difference in high traffic areas. Use Chemspec's Sales
Brochures to inform your customers of your additional
services.
Preparation of
Carpet and Fabric
During the vacuuming step, the advantages of
adequate protection will be most obvious. The use of fabric
protectors will allow more complete and efficient dry soil
removal, subsequently resulting in more effective cleaning.
The actual cleaning and spotting procedures will also be
assisted by systematic protection.
Carpet and Fabric
Protection Techniques
Apply carpet protectors immediately after
cleaning. Stainshield Concentrate may be applied
to either a dry or damp carpet by altering the dilution ratio.
The properly diluted product should be applied with a uniform
and consistent spray. A pump-up or electric sprayer should be
used. Once topically applied, the protector should be groomed
into the pile to ensure complete penetration and coverage of
the fluorochemical. Be sure to follow proper ventilation and
drying techniques.
All Fabric Stainshield is a
solvent-based protector designed specifically for upholstery,
draperies and other fine fabrics. Like carpet, fabrics need to
be cleaned and restored for a healthy home interior. As a
final step, protection extends the useful life of all these
fine textiles. Dry soil, oily spills and stains release
quickly when attended to. All safety precautions must be
followed as stated on product labels.

Our society today spends a great deal of
time indoors where we incur greater environmental exposures.
When carpet and fabrics are frequently cleaned, air quality is
improved and the investment of furnishings are protected.
