Inspection
of the Job Site
Everyone wants the job done quickly, but approval
or authorization to perform work is the absolute first step.
The next step is a written survey outlining and detailing the
procedures to contain the damage.
Preparation of
Work Area
Security and safety of the restoration area is a
must. Proper procedural guidelines for content removal,
storage, waste containment and removal are just part of a
professional's approach to this specialized field.
Cleaning
Techniques
The severity of the fire or smoke damage will
dictate the proper cleaning techniques.
A basic assumption is to start cleaning from the
source of the fire or smoke, outward. On flat painted surfaces
such as ceilings, walls and woodwork, clean with Chemical
Sponges. On semi-gloss or high gloss paints found in
kitchens and bathrooms proceed with either Liquid
or Powder Wall Cleaner. For an added feature,
use 2 ounces of Air Neutralizer in the cleaning
solution to deodorize as you clean. If painting is required,
additional deodorizing may be achieved by adding 2 ounces of Air
Neutralizer to the primer or sealer and the finish
coat.
Liquid and Powdered Wall Cleaner do an excellent
job on all appliances, bath fixtures, fiberglass and most
other hard surfaces. Wood Creme Restorer gently
cleans and restores the finest furniture, from solid wood to
laminates, and can be applied with either a soft absorbent
cloth or with 0000 steel wool, depending on the desired level
of aggressiveness. Wood Creme Restorer can also
be used on appliances, kitchen cabinets, fiberglass, metal
fixtures and wood paneling.
If the smoke has penetrated the heating and air
conditioning system, or if wood surfaces such as wall framing
were charred by the fire, both can be sealed after cleaning
with Chemspec's Fix Soot with Odor Control. If a
severe pet odor problem exists in flooring or walls, this too
can be sealed with Fix Soot.
Where there is a fire, there is smoke. If there
is smoke, you have odor. Chemspec's wide variety of
deodorizers can eliminate these odors. Smoke Solv
can be thermal fogged to eliminate smoke odors or may be added
to dry cleaning solvents for cleaning and deodorization of
clothing and fine fabrics. Air Neutralizer may
be wet fogged (atomized) for open area deodorization, or may
be added to water-based cleaning solutions for cleaning and
deodorization of launderable clothing and wet cleanable
upholstery fabrics. For small space deodorizing problems, use
one of the three scents of Chemspec's Kill Odor Mist,
which can be placed in small rooms or closets then activated
to eliminate undesirable odors.
Complete Service
A nice finishing touch to any restoration job is
the use of Chemspec's Deodorant Blocks which
provide time release deodorization for up to a month. They may
be left in drawers, closets, HVAC duct systems or practically
any other confined space where you want to assure a clean,
fresh odor.
For those musty mildew problems associated with
flood and sewage damage clean-ups, Ultra Fresh is an EPA
registered residual antimicrobial. Elimination of mold spore
and fungi related problems will improve indoor air quality (IAQ).
Smoke damaged ceilings should be cleaned with
either Crystal Acoustic Tile Cleaner or our
two-part All Ceiling Cleaner.
