What is The IICRC?

In 1972, the International Institute of Carpet & Upholstery Certification was established to provide a means by which a professional carpet, drapery, and upholstery cleaner could become certified. A short time later, it was incorporated as a testing & certification body owned by the cleaning industry's regional and national trade associations who subscribed to high standards of professionalism, technical knowledge, and skill. Now universally accepted as the objective certifying body for those reaching levels of proficiency in the industry, the IICUC recently changed its name to the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, & Restoration Certification (IICRC).

The IICRC is a nonprofit certifying body for the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry. Organized in 1972, the IICRC currently represents over 5,000 certified firms and 17,500 certified technicians in nine countries.

The IICRC, with participation from the entire industry, sets standards for inspection, cleaning and restoration.

  • IICRC S001 Standards Reference Guide for Professional On-location Cleaning of Installed Textile Floor Covering Materials.
  • IICRC S300 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Upholstery Cleaning.
  • IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration.
  • IICRC Reference Guide for Inspection of Textile Floor Coverings.
