The 1200 sq. ft refers to the gallon of concentrate. The reason that you mix it 4 -1 is that the water serves as the carrying agent for the fluorochemical to find itself to all parts of the fiber.

Over the years, I have heard many say that they think this is too much water. The real key to product performance is to get 1200 sq. ft per gallon of concentrate. Mix it at whatever level you feel comfortable. 1 -1, 6 - 1 or 12 -1.

Just make sure that each gallon covers 1200 sq. ft. At this level the customer is getting what they paid for and a properly formulated product will perform properly
