Check for colorfastness with a lower pH chem. If it bleeds i wouldn't clean it. . . inferior dyes cause this. . you can check fiber type with a burn test like Rick/Magic stated or a chemical test. . .

Naw, just answerin you and taking care of some responsibilities off the computer.

IF the rug is truly a synthetic, then determine the fiber, the type and level of soiling and if there are any stubborn stains (dye stains, urine etc...), composition of the backing and stability of the dyes...get back to me with that info and I'll go from there. Or if he is unsure he can simply sub it out to a local rug cleaner. It is always good to have experts to hand something off to that you are unsure of, especially if they will be so kind as to let you learn their craft. Most are more than willing to share their knowledge.
