One the other hand, a 350 psi pump with greater flow rates would barrel out the nozzle like crazy!

It takes alot of electrical energy to produce "Flow" rates at higher pressures (blowing circuits) unlike a gasoline engine at the same pressure producing greater flow rates.

Conclusion: We actually clean with higher flow rate more than with pressures (in theory)

Regarding the pressure drop in TM's running longer hoses: It is not that much really since the internal hoses are smooth bore.

Good Fortune to all;

"The grandfather of CFM's/Air-FLOW" since 1977;

Ed Valentine

www.cross-american corp.

The difference may be in pumping volume. A pump that has a flow volume of 3 gpm can more readily main a higher flow under high flow conditions than say a Hi-Pro pump that has a 1.25 gpm rating. Until you pull the trigger the pressure reads the same. After, the 3 gpm will maintain 350 of that pressure with the wand spraying the solution down, while the Hypro will be only at 250 or so, because it's capacity will not allow it to put out the 1.5 gpm that the # 6 jet is able to flow. Thus pressure falls.

On the other hand, if both machines were equipped with 3 gpm pumps, the portable would deliver the greater presure to the carpet. That is because the TM would have greater line loss with 100 ft of hose connected, than the portable with it's much shorter 25 ft would.
