What economical acidic rinses are you guys using? If you are cleaning carpets the right way, you will need twice as many customers to have the same number of cleaning jobs the guy (or gal) who does them wrong needs. Accept it as fact, do what it takes to get the accounts, and get on with life. Seriously, it ain't rocket science. I say that for anyone new reading these messages and thinking you can short sheet customers and be respected a professional among your peers.

Anyone can do a crap job and if that is what is being spec'd out in a bid you have three choices:
1. Bid it and shut up
2. Decline to bid
3. Submit two proposals - one their way and the other the right way to do the job

Depends on the value you place on your personal integrity I would guess.

The reason for a rinse is to restore the ph of the carpet and that will in simple terms keep the carpet cleaner longer. Some guys put extractor detergent in their water when prespraying is the recommended procedure for applying cleaning chemicals. Vacuum, Prespray, Agitate, Dwell, Rinse, Groom. It's refreshing to do a post without mentioning Tide. you may advertise and call yourself a professional carpet cleaner but, only you know if you really are one or not. It depends on your timing, actions, process and most of all morals and ethics.

Are you call-backs asking you to come and re-clean a lousy job or are they call-backs a year or so later to come back? You know who you are.

If you are still confused got to carpet cleaning school and learn the basics or a refresher course. The fact that this post on residues has received so few comments tells me 'who cares'?

TP that's what I do depending on how much prespray I put down. I use clean water as a rinse form the tank. If I do use a rinse...I use CTI "Lastl Step". That's good stuff.

IRT whether I'd go back to detergents due to a product working to well..I'm not sure.

A carpet staying clean longer *could* get you more referrals. You could charge a little more for the product that does such a good job though, perhaps make it a treatment step.

ok-hope this is ok along with this post. Going to sound super noobish asking this. Normally I run my chemical in my portable-I never do any rinsing with regular clean water. Do some people just prespray all of their chem down and just do a rinse with clean water in their portable? I would offer a choice. The standard economy cleaner means you can go x months before cleaning again. But the newest technology formula means you can double that time to X*2 months. We believe in it so much we are willing to offer you a guarantee in writing of the super cleaning powers of Quantum X technology. And because you get twice as long between jobs I guess you can see why so many of our customers say the cost savings at only 50% for twice the cleaning performance more than makes this the deal of the century. So, would you rather have our economy package, the Quantum X package or purchase 2 cleanings now to avoid the annual price increases at a discount today of 25% off the second cleaning?

Be honest, let them choose. You can be back next year at full pop at that time, be back next year when they call but at only 75% of todays price or not be back next year and get 50% of the money you don't earn as a consolation prize?

Mr. Carpetologist...I would see it as a benefical marketing tool. Im not going in to details, but that situation can be made very profitable in a larger market. We clean our carpets as best we can, that practice can be profitable.
