lol. I came across this thread while trying to find a link for a friend who has mildew smelling carpets. It's hard to believe this was actually 10 years ago. You're right Hammy, I got out of the business in 2012 and started an IT firm. I don't bust my ass for a few hundred bucks anymore, now I sit around, and drink coffee. lol. Times sure change.

I thought I knew it all about approaching the home , setting up , entering etc. Until I went to a seminar and was taught that If you just step back when you ring the door bell and wait so that the homeowner can approach YOU instead of you barging in the minute you have a chance .     yes, what that dude said is true. simply do not work for friends, unless they are paying you . I disagee with his solution since it happened to me.

you over wet and didn[t suck up enough so the pad got wet and stinky.

don't put any more liquid in there. get some fans and go borrow a dehumidfier. the fans will wick up the water from down below and the dehum will wring the water out of the air.

prob. three days dry time till no smell.

in the future, if you got a weak portable, bring a roto with bonnets
this will take more water outta the rug and dry it faster

Something else you can do it heat your water in a 5 gallon bucket first.

get a 1000 watt submersible heater.

put your prespray down and roto scrub the prespray into the rugs. this will loosen up the soil, the hot water will make it come cleaner, with less moisture, follow up with bonnet and roto , use fans. if you can afford an rx20 roto scrubber you can put a pad driver and pad on that and scrub and dry with the rx20 but do not clean with the rx and a portable.
the unit puts out too much water for a 100 psi (typical in portables)
machine to suck up much.

If you dont have it yet, get insurance.

someday you'll need to make a claim.

I dont think theres anything wrong with Chris's advises. Many who've been in the busniess awhile might take offence because it seems like  a no-brainer...But!! what about those new guys that are just starting out??? Even the simple little things can make a hugh difference.
