It needs a fairly abrupt whack in the opposite direction of rotation . I was always able to accomplish it with the heal of my shoe. I believe if hit in the 2 o'clock position and going downward in a clockwise fashion that usually did it for me .     Lean the unit back so the heads are off the floor, facing the unit use a rubber mallot the one on the right tap with mallot clockwise it will loosen right up, the one on the left tap counter clockwise also will loosen up, when re installing there is no need to tap with mallot just spin them down snug by hand. With new felts run unit 10 minutes with heads spinning but not touching floor. Anybody know how to change the felt rings on the heads of the rotovac?  My distributor just said they spin off but when I tried it doesn't make sense because the heads are made to spin, so I'm just spinning the heads and its not going anywhere... what am I doing wrong?? Confused
