    Hot knife is from vacaway.com works very well on severly dirty and greasy areas Punch is another good pad/encap cleaning chem. by excellent-supply.com

Thanks Michael, I will have a look at earth products.

To be honest I find that I often use a number of different approaches when it comes to cleaning the carpets...


I will first hit it from what ever direction the main traffic comes...ie whatever direction peop-le will initally walk into a room, as this is the direction they carry the most debris on their feet.

Then its really take your pick time, the high traffic areas may get hit from a number of different directions, the low from only the one....

I usually spend way to much time messing around trying to get out ancient spots, and sometimes to much time trying to clean carpet that is ready for the trash...

Michael, have you tried oxy clean, or anything similar?

Your pad solution is probably about as good as you can get. If you had a dual speed buffer, I might recommend experimenting with a fluffy looped poly pad at around 300 rpm.

Do you really find the vertical-then-horizontal approach to be most effective? I've noticed unattractive patterns that don't necessarily disappear after grooming. I usually do a counter-clockwise orbital motion in a 3x3 area then move on to the next and so on, avoiding long arcs and lines.

I have used the Micro fiber pads with the blue stripes I use primaraly on carpets that might tip bloom, as well as you don't have cotton balls from pad left behind. I have also used on heavy soiled carpets with success. I keep 3 in the van as back up. I also have the mop bucket/with removalable internal buckets & wringer for flushing them as I use them.
