They measure it at the blower most of the time. Then it suffers line loss going thru the waste tank, thru at least 100 ft of hose and then the wand, then the carpet. By the time you are done CFM that started off at 400 at the blower gets reduced to around 100 at the carpet's WCI(Wand/Carpet Interface).]]>

That said it is possible to buy anemometers for as little as a couple of hundred dollars. The better ones cost over $1000. Whichever type you get, you want one that can tollerate water as well as dry airflow so you can measure flow at actual use conditions, when the wand is on the carpet while you are cleaning. The rest does you very little good.]]>
