Make your site mobile friendly

Recently I got a job from a customer: move out house cleaning and carpet cleaning. She told me she found us on INTERNET by her mobile phone.
So I also searched our web with my PDA and found the display is really not nice. Few people would like to search INTERNET with their mobile. But it is often a move in or move out if they search with their PDA because they have no computer in their empty house. So the job we get from PDA user is normally big and urgent. If we can make our web site mobile friendly, we will certainly attract more of this kind of jobs. In fact more and more people use mobile phone for INTERNET search.
 
I read some articles, it seems the best way to make mobile friendly web is not just use tools to convert your ready site to moble version; instead you need to redesign it:
1. less picture, big interactive button, less data input
2. Simple and short description...
I have a lot of things to learn on this, any of your replies is welcome here.
