The water will never get near the subfloor with proper carpet cleaning. 99.9% of the soil is in the face fibre and that is what we clean. you would have to sit there and soak the carpet for quite a while for  the subfloor to get THAT wet and then not extract it AT ALL

It was not carpet cleaning that turned the floor to mush.
The previous owner had a bar, a dog and was a slob. I had to gut the place when I bought it.
I'm just nervous after seeing what standing water does to particle board and I wasn't sure how long water stayed on the bottom of the carpet after being cleaned by one of those monster carpet machines.
Thank you very much for the info! Now I can get my carpets cleaned AND sleep well <G>.

Residential grade carpet has a primary backing latex then a secondary backing.. cleanex said it well..

Properly cleaned by a truckmount carpet cleaner should not cause you any problems. If you are that concerned than find a cleaner using a low moisture system. I have a double wide mobile home which has a particle board sub floor.
I've had to replace some of the flooring with plywood because the previous tenant got it wet and the floor turned to mush.
Is there a safe way to have my carpets cleaned without damaging the sub flooring?
I don't want to hire a pro who uses steam cleaning or water if it's going to damage my sub flooring.
Any advise will be GREATLY appreciated. We really want to have the carpet professionally cleaned but not if it's going to make us fall through <G>.
