How old is you unit?  Sounds like a hole in your waste tank.  Is you  tank equiped wit an auto shutoff if the tank gets too full?? If so is it working? to get backflow threw the blower it is either not shutting off, possible a foam problem, maybe even the tank gasket. I am getting some serious blow by when my machine is in use.
Usually one time per job it will just release and blow out the silencer. I was thinking it is because of the soap, maybe to much and getting into the filter from the recovery tank.
