I guess it might vary from country to country...  But where I live in the Greater Toronto Area Canada... Carpet cleaning seems to be a dying trade... I'm mid stream now 35 and counting... believe it or not I'm a young one

Hi Young Padman, from one old fart to another.

I turn 60 next March.

This is my 33rd year in the game, so I must've been a young fart about 27 when I started.

Mr Steamer, I don't know what you base your assumptions on.

I know of some young people that don't want to be involved, because it does not fit their image with their friends, they would rather be on a computer in some office working for a pittance.

To much investment for a crap return  

Don't come  to me because you know the value of your work and apparently charge accordingly. I trust that is not the case

I feel that I know what I am worth, and I get it. The jobs I miss out on, are usually on price, and I won't lower my standards just to get a job.

I know of a 19 year old, that has more qualifications than most carpet cleaners going.

He recently purchased his first warehouse, about 10,000 square feet.

This kid is going places in our industry down under.

When I get my creaky knees replaced, I reckon I'll have another 20 years in me, to train the young'uns, you know, all those 30 year olds, that will be on the scrap heap soon.

LOL, I am an old fart that loves it, but then again have since I was 20 so then I wasn't an old fart and BTW I loved it then too.

 

I would say the AVERAGE age of a carpet cleaner is right around 34 years old.

I've found over the last 10 or so years.... That the carpet cleaning industry is just filled with old farts.... It's not the job choice of anyone in their 20's, and to find people to work gets harder and harder year by year.

I figure in the next 10 years most of the farts will be out of the business, and eventually it'll be real hard to find any cleaners...

I know of two big companies that are looking for people with their own truck mounted equipment and they can't find anyone.....
