I come from an area where the census figures are 351715.  With only 28 cleaners left in business, my share is 1092. The bad news is many of our fellow carpet cleaners are now out of business as a result of quitting or selling their businesses.

The good new is as a result of the bad news the market for the surviving carpet cleaners just got better.

Based on these numbers

Per household average: 2.3
Total Households: 43478
Households that have ever used pro carpet cleaners : 20%
Possible clients then: 8695
So much for the fairly stable number.

Number of competing firms: 50
This number goes down in this economy by the month

Share of business per business: 174

This is a good reason to rejoice in your competition's failure and a great reason not to quit on yourself.  There are reasons to take pleasure in a tough economy and not fear it.  Believing in oneself is key.  Assuming the best is best.  To be excited everyday about making no friends out of the unknown factor of the person living behind that front door, that is the magic of this business.
