The first 24–48 hours are critical: shut off the water main, pull up any soaked carpet padding (it almost never dries clean), and get high-velocity air movers plus a dehumidifier running. If the wall cavities or subfloor are wet, DIY fans won't cut it — trapped moisture leads to mold within days, so professional extraction and moisture metering are worth the cost. Document everything with photos before you move anything, since your insurer will want that record.]]>
