And make sure they are IICRC certified.

Having a IICRC certified cleaner doesn't mean jack $hit when it comes to getting a good job.

Last tip to remember. DOnt go with the lowest price cleaner  (just use your common sense). Cheaper is definately not better. And make sure they are IICRC certified.

BTW, Cant you just return the Rug doctor?? I mean, You only had it for a week.

PS- Carpet cleaning is not as easy as it looks now is it

Regent: Don't waste anymore time and money on this. A tm will not clean below the carpet either.  If it is that bad underneath and the carpet is still salavageable dissengage the carpet remove and replace the pad do a good cleanup before reinstallation and you will be good to go. Regardless you must consider what the entire job is worth. If you are over 60 to 70% in restoration costs REPLACE IT!.

I guess I'll have to get an estimate..... Thing that ticks me off is that I've had this RD for over a week, spent a lot of money already, and now I'll have to make a truck payment for a cleaning contractor anyway.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The carpet comes clean on every pass. The problem is wicking.

The exception would be the tobacco stained area in one room. It is somewhat darker than the rest of the carpet. Any specific recommendations for the tobacco stain?

Can you recommend a product? I'll ask at the Home Depot, as I'm on my way there now.
