Is anyone currently using this system.....If so what are your thoughts? A few prople advised that they would be buying this unit so I was just looking for follow-up.

A few people are going to be jumping off cliffs this year as well, but that does not mean you need to join them. Seriously though, this is a very under-powered machine that is likely to cause you maintenance problems down the road. There are too many other machines with good power levels for prices under $10K to pick this machine IMO. When you overwork a small engine, they never last as long as one that has a few horses left in reserve. You need that, because all aircooled engines lose power over time, and small engines lose at a greater rate than bigger ones. It may have the HP to power a small blower in the begining, but at 500 hours, it likely will be a different story. I prefer water cooled or pto driven myself, but if your budget does not permit that, look for a engine of at least 18 HP driving a #36 blower. You should find that a good starting place that will give you the power and reliability you need. Edited by Superglide Ken - 09/November/2006 at 2:04pm |

The sales manager at steambrite emailed me a list of people that bought the scout, and a lot of them were really happy with it and said it performed like they expected it to, why do you say they are underpowered? What are you basing that on? FYI, they DO make a 18hp scout now its for like 8 grand http://www.steam-brite.com/store/scout-18hp-truckmount-p-4698.html Edited by JohnnehSquish - 30/October/2007 at 6:15pm |

None of those purchasers have likely logged 500 hours on those machines yet. The problems do not start to show until after that. Anyone that has never operated the more powerful machines is likely to notice the difference. I have built the machines with the smaller engines and the ones with the bigger engines. Bigger is better.
