I've stretched my "start up" funds for this business to it's last penny. I'm ready to pull the trigger and place my order for a portable. I've narrowed my options down to 2 mytee models that I can afford that are within a couple of hundered dollars of eachother.
If you had to choose between these 2 models which would you go with and WHY?
Mytee 1001DX - 250psi WITH HEATER $1400
OR
Mytee 1005DX - 450psi WITH NO HEATER $1600
Thanks

Much stroner vac and increased pressure are needed when encountering heavily soiled carpet. heater comes 3 rd after that. You can allows buy a heater later. |

Double AA;
ALWAYS CHOOSE the most powerful system and then you can't go wrong! And, for only $200 (I realize your budget), it will be worth it!!!!

I would NEVER go for lower power. NEVER.
Rules for machine selection, taking cost into account:
1. Select a balanced system. Than means that as much power is given to both cfm and waterlift as possible.
2. Get the higher psi (for carpet 350-450 is enough).
3. Check out the gpm, since you need flow to flush out the dirt.
4. Tank size. This is one of the most overlooked aspects of machine selction. You, as a professional, are going to fill and dump the tank tens of thousands of times in the next decade. A difference of even $2000 should not even make you blink if you want to save tens of thousands in labor. Are you in the business of filling or dumping? No! An 18 gallon tank will require you to dump it 40% less than an 11 gallon tank. That mens that you (and the people you pay) will spend 40% less time taking care of that task, and more time making money or relaxing.
5. Pump quality. This is a tricky one, because the internal components of pumps can vary. If you buy a machine, for example, with a Hypro pump, the type of Hypro can be a cheap one or a more expensive one with better parts.
6. Body style and composition.
7. The customer support given by the seller and manufacturer. We all know what it's like to deal with dishonest people. Look at the seller's reputation. This is near the bottom of this list, but it should be near the top when making the actual decision.
8. Other goodies, like heat, add-on tanks, whatever. Edited by FriendlyHammer - 18/March/2008 at 11:36pm |

If you can do it, do what I wish I had done. Have them spec out the components that make up the system you will be getting. Do not take their word at it that the manufacturer and model that will be in yours is equal to so-and-so. Have them provide a quote that is detailed. If they don't want to do it, find someone who will. This substitution of parts with the cheapest ones is a game played by manufacturers of computers (just to give you an example). And if they were equal the would bench test equal. You want to see the benchmark tests of vac lift, cfm and psi.

Are you in a high paying business or are you just a self employed low paid grunt who thinks this business provides dignity?

Don't forget e-Bay. S-B is going to slam you with a big extra change if you don't have it delivered to a commercial address. Talk to me and I'll tell you how to negotiate with Sandy, if you order from them. They usually won't tell you about the extra charge until AFTER you place to order.

Not to scare you but be cautious of SteamBrite. I ordered a brand new pumptec 250psi pump and when it arrived the pump head was a used one.. It had chemical residue all around the fittings.. Sent it back and they did replace with new but the hassle and time wasted wasn't worth dealing with them anymore.. The motor was brand new.. Imagine that..
Makes you wonder if they will use other used parts.. There are many other dealers to choose from..

John;
That senerio reminds me of the old "HQ" firm ; (competed with homedepots, etc..) that eventually went bankrupt.
I used to hear their ads: "We guarantee everything. If you don't like it, just return it. You used the drill hanging dry wall and a month later, something happened, just return it!"
WOW, how inviting for the consumer. However, the flip side was an easy read: Not alot of "honest people" out there. Consequently, one would go in and purchase what they thought was new, that was actually used. happened to me and I never went back.
Hummmmm. Maybe there is a negative to that kind of warranty!
Side note: Years ago we had an invitation to sell to one of those big store chains. However, the no hassle return, no questions asked policy was just too much to bear. No way.
