  Hey everyone..

I have just purchased a carpet business and want to know how u all think I generally made out.  I think I prob got a good .. not super super great.. but good deal on things.

The business is 33 years old.. and the guy I bought it from was 65.. getting ready to retire ..

The business grossed 70k last year.. profit was only about 20k though.

I bought the business.. which includes an older van on last legs with an operation Butler cleaning system in it... and then the rest is for his clientale which i'm praying calls in.  I do have apt contacts worth about 30k a year that he's been doing them for many years.  Just hope, of course, nobody pulls out but generally I dont think they will.

So paying 20k which is basically one years earning .. but business has gotten bigger earnings in past.  And an older van with a operational Butler cleaning system.

How u all think I made out?

It is all going to depend on how you work your current datebase of customers.
Were his customers mostly high end or bargain hunters. I had a guy that wanted to sell me his business
because he basically went belly up. I asked him what his customers were used to paying .... he said about 12 cent per square foot.............. END OF CONVERSATION . His business even if he had 800 regular customers is not worth anything to me. They are to used to cheap prices. If he only made 20K on 70K gross. This would be my main concern.

A functional Butler unit is a great asset. You don't say the age or condition . This will make some difference but only if you sell it , it is still a great start. I use the software I developed to keep in touch with my customers. www.castlebrooksoftware.com ( 90 Day Free Trial if you'd like to try it). This can be a key to your success also. Customer contact is NUMBER 1.... you never want a customer to forget who you are....

Good Luck on your new venture.   Persistence will pay off !
