I recently experienced pretty bad water damage in my basement due to a sever storm here in Colorado.  I am trying to get it all cleaned up and taken care of, but I am worried about mold issues... I am pretty sure there is some mold under the carpet, but I am curious about mold buildup in air ducts.  can mold particles get into my a/c system?  Let me know what I can do to mitigate my damages? Do I need a Professional?

You need someone with a remote camera system to check them for you. If mold is discovered you will need a professional to remedy the situation. this is no job for the inexperienced.

Yes, the mould can most certainly grow inside ducts and air vents, so you should have your system checked by a professional with a camera. The good news are that even if they find something, it's quite normal. There are many things which can be stuck there, so cleaning your ducts at least once a year is something perfectly normal. Even if there is mould, a specialist can get rid of it efficiently for sure, so don't worry. Wink

Ducts must be cleaned regularly as well as filters changed. If you miss the appearance of mold, it can be bad for your health, and especially for people with allergies. On our own, we only change filters every 3 months, to clean the air ducts we call technicians every year, if necessary, they carry out cleaning.
