I had a cleaner come into my store yesterday and ask for strong, strong chemical as he was just awarded a 200,000 sq. ft. cleaning contract for a new public venue that is opening this fall in Toronto.

Looking at this guy and seeing his antiquated cleaning equipment I could only assume that he had to be the lowest bidder. This man had little knowledge and had no idea of modern, updated, healthier and safer products.
Goes to show you that the big execs who make the big decisions are too busy to think of cleaning or they simply feel that anyone with a mop, bucket and pail will be sufficient.

Thermedix, I like that marketing approach......the only problem with that would be a guy like me as your competitor and come up with a slogan....... 'LET US SHOW YOU WHY OUR LOW PRICES AND QUALITY WORKMANSHIP MAKE THE COMPETITION RUN & HIDE DURING OUR ONE TIME ANNUAL PROMOTIONAL  SPECIALS " DON'T GET FOOLED INTO PAYING MORE FOR THE SAME CLEAN CARPET

Price = percieved value, When you buy a new car, do you buy the cheapest on the market, it may be a fine car, but you percieve it to be junk because of the price, there are many people who will buy the cheap car, as well there are many people who will get 2 rooms and a hall cleaned for $30.00, but they will probably not be my customers. I offer an excellant service and a price that reflects that service. It`s worked for me.
Steamer, Yes your approach is fine, it will draw people in, I have found advertising and promos are about 3-5% effective in my area,...

What the hell does a car ( TANGIBLE ITEM ) have to do with a service

A car has hundreds of variables to justify price & quality,  does the carpet cleaner have magic water over another, does he have  magic or high quality soap, is there a 5 year wall to wall or 100,000 footstep waranty.

I can clean a carpet stain with spit and the bottom of my shoe.

How's that for perception...................

It looks like IICRC in cooperation Shaw is trying to regulate the industry, but I don't know long it will be, if ever, before we feel that pressure.
