I went to do some commercial marketing today. It went ok. I noticed that sometimes you have the workers happily greet you until they find out you’re marketing your carpet cleaning business. Then they kind of ignore you or talk down to you. What's the deal with people sometimes? It still did not discourage me. I'm still pounding the pavement and got 3 leads today on companies that are affiliated with other companies.

My question is what is the best way to approach a business? Maybe I can critique my approach.

In the 30's.......40's.......50's...........even the 60's & 70's.........walking the beat by pounding the pavement was the way to go........today..........use the telephone........save time............turn 3 leads into 30 and target your customer............,approach a business, like a business..........they want to hear someone say to them that they are there to save them some money.........the rest is up to you

Commercial jobs come in a lot more the more people you know! Network, Network, Network. Network by trade associations (ie Chambers), Network existing commercial clients, and most importantly network with all your residential clients (most of them work some where, go somewhere, were they can refer you!).
Biggest thing with commercial is deal directly with decision maker!

This is what I do If I see a place I think I can get I go in. The rest I just let them call me from my advertizement and referals.

I don`t use demo approach any more, I carry a laptop on sales calls that has before and after pics on it, they love it...and you can usually sneak one of their competetion in there, they love to keep up with comp.
BNI has worked very well for me as well!

thermedix,

People love hi-tech stuff, they are very inexpensive sales tools that keep on working...are always on the job...don't ask for raises...and don't get pregnant in the busy season.
