does anyone still get jobs cleaning upholstery anymore or is this a thing of the past? i'm thinking of taking the IICRC course on it but if there is not much demand then maybe i'd be wasting my time and money. what's your opinion?? thanks.

Without upholstery cleaning I might as well close the business.

If you do a good job on the carpets at least half will let you clean the furniture if you ask.
The first thing to ask to clean is the old man's chair where he watches television.

Not every house has carpet to day, but every house has upholstery.
Just booked a commercial upholstery job to day 200 Chairs and a mile of fabric panels to be cleaned. As Lee said upholstery can be big part of your business. There are companies out there that only clean upholstery and do very well at it.

I must say that is what I told myself last Friday. Around here in the newer homes a lot of them just have hardwood and tile rather than carpeting. But almost everyone has upholstery, even businesses. I'm just not going to be getting myself involved with Haitian Cotton.

I'm trying to get myself signed up for the IICRC upholstery cleaning class in the next few months along with the carpet cleaning course.

hard wood is where its at, im volunteering with a hard wood guy to learn refinishing...

Upholestery cleaning is where its at man, take the class...you wont regret it...

But if you want to know how to clean it without taking a class

Get a good netral upholestery prespray...and a drimaster(ebay 300 bucks)

Man made fiber, use high heat, and prespray, I use alittle carpet prespary for the harder areas.  just make sure you know whats in the backing

Natural(be careful here) mild to cold water, test test test, dry dry dry

you wont be able to hurt 98 % of all upholestery...but always test fiber

I follow the book, spray prespray in a hidden location, let it sit, and rub with a white cloth...that is if it isnt labled...

if im not sure, no tag, i start out cold, and increase heat...I never do a burn test...I did that once and the customer almost kicked me out..

never had anything bleed...I just dry like a mofo, and dont over wet

I take my time, but I also charge 100 bucks for a couch,  60 for a love seat, and 45 for a chair...no need to rush

is that what you mean john?
