Hello , I would like to upgrade to a truckmount unit and was also shopping for a 3/4 ton Cargo Van. The problem i have encountered is that there is insufficient clearance to get a new or newer cargo van into my Garage. Would a GM/Chev 1500 or Ford E-150 be ok for a 700 lb truckmount, 60 gallon water tank , plus a couple portables to boot?. I said to my dealer that i will keep my current 1/2 ton van and put my new truckmount in that, but my dealer says NO. On jondon and other sites i do see some 1/2 ton vans equipped with truckmounts. your input and recommendations will be appreciated |

IMHO
No it is not o.k.
unless you have a really small TM like a Blazer or Spitfire or such
You will go through brakes,shocks ,springs much faster............good luck finding a 15inch tire to hold the weight.
I'm kinda in the same boat,,,,,my van doesn't fit in my garage..........I'm just going to put a higher door in it this summer,,,,,,,,,,,,I currently rent a spot in my neighbors garage  ------------- A.K.A. Andy |

I agree I've had all manner of vans and the smaller vans just wear out especially if you are going to carry water and do flood work. Spend some time laying out your shelves and stuff. It will be worth the time in the long run.

| I have to re-shingle my garage roof this spring, i am considering adjusting the roof pitch to a slighter higher angle. Involves some re-framing....plus it wouldn't hurt to change my 40 year old garage doors........ |

I have the same problem, my van won't fit in my garage, so I have to wash it more frequently and heat it during the winter. If you are going to do this do it right the first time so you do not have to do it again. 3/4 or 1 ton. I unfortunately had to learn the hard way. Good luck |

1/2 ton van will die very fast under the weight.
