Last night I found this great forum and read as many posts as I could consume. Thanks :)

As a janitorial company we don't do carpets as a primary business but just on what our current customers require/need. So as much as I think after reading all the posts that a truck mount would be great, the return on profit would be 10 years into the future. I would love to sub carpets out, but security is an issue and there's not much headroom for costs to do that.

So maybe you guys can help me with what I already have which is an Advance Aqua clean 18 and a Clarke Image 16i. I can't say after reading most of the posts that I came across anyone else owning these so I feel disadvantaged right out of the gate :P Seems like people here own everything but what a 'big' manufacturer sells.

Anyway, my biggest problem is I lack the experience since we do carpets so infrequently and one of the newer accounts we have has miles of carpet which people like to spill things on and I'm getting a lot of stains that go away initially, but pop back up a week or two later.

Can you guys recommend a general purpose chemical that works well with a walk behind extractor for pre-spray and for extraction? I realize I also really need a few more chemicals for spot removal so to that end are there any kits available that covers most stains?

Thanks a lot and any information would be greatly appreciated Star

BTW, I may be open to buying a new extractor seeing how heat seems to play a big part in carpet cleaning for which my local suppliers pretty much said it didn't. My extractors also leave too much water behind no matter how many times you go over it.

I'm interested in looking into the Ninja Warrior style of extractor. I've had it stuck in my head that you needed a beater bar to really clean a carpet, but I guess you don't. Plus that style of machine seems like it could save a huge amount of time with a long hose whereas the walk behinds get stuck on every desk, corner and oddly angled wall and require a lot of fill ups and dump outs.

You can run hoses off walk behinds. Do 25'. I had a NSS walkbehind many moons ago
and it worked great. But I'm a great cleaner.. So everything works great.. lol

Just use big floor machines and do bonnet/encap. They are more versatile machines for general janitorial anyway. Ideally, you would do a few encaps in a relatively tight time frame. You'll be able to gradually stretch out the cleanings until reaching a comfortable plateau. It sounds like a good account. If it were me, I'd do a strong encap and then schedule a free follow-up visit for a couple weeks out. You can go from there. In my experience, you'll have a better looking carpet that stays cleaner longer.

encap = encapsulate? I don't quite understand... :)

What chemicals do you guys use for general extraction?

One thing I don't understand is how can a wand be better then a beater bar/wand of a walk behind? It seems like the agitation would allow for better cleaning.
