Hi, i am completely new to this carpet cleaning business and would greatly appreciate it if you guys can give me some helpful advice. I have most of the equipment i believe are needed for a job: Portable extractor (http://www.cleancraft.com/Eclipse_Portable_Extractor_p/eclipse.htm) i have the 249in water-life, 500 psi, heating system model, a rotovac 360, carpet rake, vacuum cleaner, and some chemicals. Over the weekend i did my first job but it seemed like i couldn't remove ANY STAINS and i really dont know what the problem is. Is it the chemicals i am using/not using? do i need a spotting kit? I was hoping i could go over the exact steps i went through and receive your inputs/thoughts/suggestions.
Step1) I vacuumed all the rooms
Step 2) i sprayed a traffic lane cleaner everywhere
Step 3) i sprayed a pre-spotter on all the stains and rubbed it in with my shoes
Step 4) i used the carpet rake to agitate the chemicals in
step 5) i used Liquid 77 from chemspec with my portable extractor

I honestly don't know what i am doing and it is all new to me and i was hoping you guys could help me out.
Can you guys show/tell me what chemicals you guys use and when u use it?

You will learn all you need to know not by reading here but by getting hands on experience working for someone who is a pro.  And you need to attend IICRC training.  Unfortunately, you put the cart before the horse.  Buying a pool cue does not mean you are an instant success at playing pool.  Same with golf clubs or a bowling ball.  It is not the equipment that makes the champ, it is knowledge gained by experience.  No shortcuts on that anywhere anytime.

Are you in a high paying business or are you just a self employed low paid grunt who thinks this business provides dignity?

Well it sounds like you have the equipment.  I have to agree
with the above thread also. I think you need better chemical,
dwell time and next time try to blot the stains with a white cotton
towel  and yes get a spotting kit or some different stain removers.
Some times you may need to use a 175 machine or something more
than your carpet rake.
