Well, my building sent a certain franchise carpet cleaner company to clean the stains and as I was telling the guy about the grease stains he kind of blew me off.  Sure enough, when the carpet dried the stains came back....wicking?

Okay, I call thecompany they send another guy who keeps insisting they are urine stains.  I keep telling him they are NOT.  He says the stains are permanent and I tell him I had some success using this woolite/oxy clean stuff and he says I just bleached my carpet.  I tell him forget it.

THEN, I make an appointment with another company for Monday.  They say they use portable machines, not truck mounted ...and may do a shampoo and then a steam clean.  The regular steam clean is going to run 125$ and the shampoo 90$ for each room.  I have a studio apartment with a small dressing room...which they count as a second room.

What are my chances of these stains coming out?  Does this new company's prices sound ok?  ( I think they are reasonable)  Also, I was under the impression that each stain has a different pre-treater  ..the franchise guy says the pre-treater is in the truck/mixed in with the solution already.

ALso, because my stains "wicked" doesn't it mean that the actual dirt is still in the carpet and has not just stained the carpet?

This will tell you what the liklihood of the stain coming out is.

Don't listen to the advice of one entry level member above who said to use a bonnet method. He uses a bonnet method because he cannot afford a truckmount machine yet. Some of the other things he said are good advice, though.

 

I think you are headed for trouble with the company who said they are not going to use spotter chemicals. In addition, they do not pre-spray carpets and rinse properly, which tells me they are hacks. Any decent carpet cleaner sprays down the carpet first with his cleaning solution and then rinses in the cleaning cycle.

 

What you need is somebody who has the right equipment, chemicals and experience, rather than rushing to hire the first janitor who is rolling a portable down your street. Duckcountry was correct about the cat food dye. You need a "dye heat transfer process" to remove it and the more hacks you have running over it prior to this procedure, the less likely it will come out. The other stain sounds like a good solvent spotter should take it out. If it is petroleum based oil, I would use Chemspec POG, followed by Hydramaster citrus gel spotter. If this didn't work, I would use a touch of WD40, followed again by the other two. As far as the equipment goes, do not settle for less than a newer truckmount with a rotary machine. You need to make some calls and get the right person on the job or you will end up with a permanent problem.

Okay....I tell him that by looking at his face he thinks he can't get the spots out.  he said we'll try.  I'm like.....what is ur process?  He tells me a shampoo and then steam clean.   Then I say, don't you pre-treat the stains with something?   Then I ask him if he has a spot kit...which I'm not even sure what that is...hahaha.  He then says yes (though i think he was bluffing!  lol) and I say, well, wouldn't you use that first to see if the spots come out and then continue?  He says we'll shampoo that area first and then see.  I say "forget it".  Forgot to add, that he said he would charge another 75$ for the spot kit in addition to them 300$ I was already being charged...about 350 square feet of carpet.

So now I'm back to square one.  I have one of those Bissell upright machines with the hand tool.  I was thinking of just using the Oxy-woolite stuff on those spots and see what happens because, basically...I feel defeated!!  haha

But really, I would love to have my carpet "right" again.  Also, I have no problem paying $$$$$....but I didn't want to drop 400$ for a maybe, let's see outcome.

Can anyone recommend someone to me?  I'm in Queens, NYC....or should I rent one of those machines and do it myself????  

I'd also like to add that this last company seems like a very large one and how can I be sure that their actual workers have had that IRCC class?  Oh yeah, and this company uses portable machines, not truck-mount.....

Grease is easily removed with a degreaser such as a citrus based agent

There are many to choose from.. Castrol SuperClean is the cheapest.

 

Pet urine stains are easily removed with a mixture of Hydorgen Peroxide (Sallys Beauty Supply)  30 or 40% volume mixed 50/50 with clear ammonia.

Rinse well after you see the stain disappear.
