Basically in Australia the average sale is 3 rooms for $100.00 So if you do 6 jobs a day take out $100 for expenses (Van,fuel, chemical etc) you will be left with $500. That's pretty much why I got into the carpet cleaning too.

That's correct average price per job is about $130 of which 4 - 5 can be done per day without rushing . My best ever day was $1200 but that did include a 3 hour flood job.

it's possible to make $500 a day, but usually doesn't happen everyday... at least for me, even after cleaning for over 22 years... most of the time, it's half that or a little less, but still not bad, on the days that I'm working... like everything, it could be better, and I suppose if I worked harder at it, not just worked harder... it could be better than it is...

New to this board, but not to carpet cleaning - its just hard in the winter, and have thought about getting at least a part time job for the winter. I think about it most winters.. (usually end or Jan - mid Feb, about the time I'm seriously considering it, and usually a decent sized job shows up and I just say "spring will be here soon and I'll be busy again" and I just kick back and enjoy the dead time, while I have it. Relocating soon to NC and have to start from scratch again,
One thing I've learned over the years is Don't price yourself low.... Low prices do "usually" make the phone ring, but if you start out cheap, it's hard to raise your prices without loosing customers (although, some, at the lower prices, I'm glad to loose) The only thing low prices do, is make you work HARDER for less money, it's weird, but it seems the people that abuse their carpets the most and never seem to care about it until "I'm/Your" there cleaning it, then they want it look like new, and want you to go over it and over it, for a cheap prices, or even want it cheaper....
When I relocate, I'll be pricing higher, possibly offering a couple sale prices from time to time and/or referral discounts.
I've noticed the people who have the cleanest carpets, when i show up, only wanting to keep it that way or cleaning to just get a few spots out, are willing to pay the most, and even after I give them a price, they're happy to pay it, even sometimes saying what a deal it is..... just the opposite of the nastiest jobs who are never happy and hate to pay anything at all...
