John L ..........how can you make pre-conceived comments on a piece of equipment you havn't worked with for at least a year or 2.

Truckmounts are great, I bought my first brand new one in 1985, then bought 2 more a year later. I then had a total of 5 units.

5 units 10 guys working every day with an average of 5 to 7 houses per truck per day every day for 8 monts per year, plus commercial.

The key work here is 1985 to 1992 when I was getting .35 sq foot for homes , 1.50 for stairs, 2.50 for wrap arounds( average house was $200- $250 ) Commercial was .18 to .20 sq. foot and gas was cheap.

Today a truckmount just doesn't cut it unless you are a lone worker that bought a used truckmount and just want to make a living.

If you want to run a business & make money look at all the variables whick include a truckmount, portables & the  OP system.

I can only speak of where I live, what happens in other cities is beyond me, but I think it would not be much different.

How can I you ask...Easy... I've used both... I know what they can do when it come's to performance... Time is MONEY... I'm a one man sometimes 2 men operation...Time is MONEY...

If a Tm don't cut it today then tell me why SS uses them and make millions a year... They should use portables right NR...

I have nothing against a good porty and obviously you don't either but come on man a TM blows any porty away... you  know this and if you run your biz right there will be plenty profit...

TIME IS MONEY......

I was not familiar with Stanley steamer until I entered the name in my data base.

In order to make $ 1,000,000 in carpet cleaning you must clean 10,000,000 sq.feet of carpet @.10

Stanley Steamer makes the bulk of his revenue through carpet sales, duct cleaning, tile & grout,& floods.Do not forget franchise fees, chemical sales & so on. The carpet cleaning end of it is small potatos.

I can see where truckmounts are a greater asset to him because of the facts I mentioned above.

Also as part of his franchise offer you must purchase a truckmount from him, are you wondering why, not because it's the greatest thing since sliced bread but rather because his profit margin is greater selling a truck than a portable, plus the fact that it also doubles as a mobile billboard for his company name.

Unless he wants you to push a yellow portable down the street from customer to customer he will push the truckmount.

It is unfair to yourself John L to purchase something with great expectations of earning a greater income because of your equipment.

Time is not always money, so be carefull. Time is structured to never ever stop, but you have to, and time keeps going and moving along. You will always be behind the 8 ball with time. What is more important is how you use the time you have, that is where you lose money.

Think of owning a truckmount and cleaning that house that normally takes you 4 hours with a portable & now 2.5 with your truck as the guy who quits smoking 2 packs a day to save money............do you think he will have $ 4,000 in a piggy bank at home at the end of the year.................. The time you will be saving will not add up to much at the end of the year unless you have another house to do to fill that time up with every single day and every hour of the day.

I don't want to discourage you with your purchase, I hope you use it well and make lots of money and have loads of fun doing it. Manage your time well and the truckmount will earn you some big time money, get sloppy with the time saved and you will have a nice shinny truckmount to decorate your driveway with.

But Ed I was and am a porty user.... I know wher to put my porty in the house to get fast work out of it....

I'm not against them... i'm not looking through colored glass... I can see clearly...

In residential carpet cleaning porty's eat up too much time...  Apts are a bitch to clean and houses are just to big to handle...

in a commercial environment they might be better... but the 500 psi Ninja that I have...doesn't have the cleaning power of my truck mount

I know because I've tried both

Steamer;

You may correct in sighting your particular portable. However, the problem I have is how we generalize the word: "PORTABLE"------in other words assuming that all portables are alike and at the sametime, generalizing that every fuel run TM ($5,000-100,000 vortex) are equal.

Listen, for a Vortex unit at $100,000 and all the insurance one has to pay for it, I hope the purchaser gets a few extras that we do not offer with our base high-performance portable/TM systems.

But, regardless, ALL GREAT SYSTEMS will give GREAT RESULTS if the operator knows what they are doing.

Have a great day, Steamer, and if you are ever down this way, we have a Tim Horton's right around the corner!!!!

Nightrider;

Actually SS in my neck of the woods does close to 2mil a year on just cc and uph. cleaning... no duct's, sales of carpet or tile&grout...How do i know?? well that's my big secret...But it's a fact...not saying your right or wrong but they all don't run their biz the same...

These # are reachable... Back in 84 I managed a 15 porty operation out of Milwaukee bringing in 100k per month...Well that's 1,200,000 dollars per year....And that's no BULL !!!!!!!!!

After 20yrs I have already reached my expectations/goals and nothing...I mean nothing could discourage me from getting better and more tools...

It's not about the money, even though when your working Time IS money...Our stock holdings actually make more... It's a passion...It's doing it BETTER than your competition...WOW'ing your custy's consistently...

Take care,

Meanwhile your Truckmount is collecting dust outside Steamer, or is it that you don't have money for gas
