i'm looking to start a carpet cleaning business. i really don't have the money to buy all the expensive equiptment. i am looking into grant options and or sba loans. has anyone here done this? what do you think would be my best option? also i own a home but i really don't want to take out a home equity and get myself in further debt.  please give me your feedback.

I'm not from the states, but one thing I do know... NEVER risk your primary dwelling with your business...lol

If your getting a loan get something with a revolving line... so you only pay interest on what you use every 30 days.  The trick is keep the cash flowing

Ripley, we use a company called C and J Leasing to have customers buy equipment, two years of low payments and then $1.00 to purchase.

GOOD LUCK TRYING TO OBTAIN FINANCING FROM TRADITIONAL SOURCES TO START A CARPET CLEANING BUSINESS. AS FAR AS SMALL BUSINESS LOANS THRU GOVERNMENT....THEY WONT EVEN TALK TO YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE CREATING COMPETETION FOR THE EXISTING MARKETPLACE.....BEEN DOWN THAT ROAD AFTER SPENDING THOUSANDS DOING BUSINESS PLANS AND MARKET RESEARCH...AND WE HAD A NEW IDEA THAT NO ONE ELSE WAS DOING....STILL NO LUCK. ALSO THE BANKS WANT SECURITY!!!!! THEY WANT CASH OR EQUITY...DOESNT MATTER...BUT THEY WANT IT!!!! LEASING IS OK BUT YOU STILL NEED CASH TO WORK WITH. I THINK DOUG OR SOMEONE POSTED $15,000 NEEDED TO START...I THINK ITS A GOOD NUMBER

IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK OF USING YOUR HOME FOR EQUITY FINANCING THEN YOU ARE NOT READY TO GET IN BUSINESS FOR YOURSELF IN THIS INDUSTRY!!!!!!!

JUST MY OPINION ....BUT I HAVE BEEN DOWN MANY A WINDING ROADS FOR FINANCING AND ITS NOT EASY!!!

Cleaner1... you'll find after a number of years in business, the banks are more willing to work with you.   Things such as business credit cards and line of credits come more easily after at least 5 years of proven track record.

15,000 cash in hand isn't much but it's not a bad start.  Personally I think if your building a business from nothing you might need a bit more. It also depends on what part of the business you entering.... Commercial or Residential... One is more stable the other gives you the cash flow a small business needs
