Too high compared to what, her $5.00 cup of coffee at Star*****?

I think she got a deal.  I don't know what the going rate is there but its way above .12/sqft here.  My vote is too low.

Would you like me to clean your carpet ?

Or I can just spray it with some sweet perfume, like my low priced competitors aways do.

Turn down the machine, Turn up the charme.

Cracks some jokes.

I would have charged  $ 250.00

And she would have loved paying it.

You sound like you have a soft heart. You did a good deed for this old woman and I think thats great and you made some money too.

I was just trying to sugest that you raise your prices a little, in the way of saying that you can always come down on your price, but you cant ever go back up, I always like to shock   my clients with a very high price and just before there eyes pop all the way out, then I bring it down a little till they bite. When i first started back in the 80's  i had a 10gal 2-2stage 100psi porty in a dodge colt and it all fit in the back...One time i backed up into the custy's driveway and this old lady was out doing yardwork... She come's over and says can i help you... I say I'm here to clean your carpet..she say's where's your van...I say all my equipment is right here..she looks in the back and says.. OH no... I can rent one of them...Your not cleaning my carpet...WOW!! Only happened 2 times.........

When it comes to price....

There will be those that shop for price and they will get all of the upselling companies.

My advise to you is....DO NOT UPSELL!

Charge a flat rate price based around making $100 per hour without scotchgard.

I have found that with a TM your price will typically be between 30 and 34 cents per square foot. (If you are using a portable....charging this amount you will probably only bring in about $55 to $75 per hour unless you have a helper.)

Sell your quality and service....NOT YOUR PRICE!  Also, watch where you are advertising as well....the lower the median income....the higher the number of price shoppers.  The higher the median income....the lower the number of price shoppers.

To Your Success,

Kris

Kris...........I don't know where you're getting all this trivial info from...........but It's borders on dumb.......this is carpet cleaning...........AND YOU WILL SOON REALIZE ALL THOSE PRICE SHOPPERS AND CHOPPERS PAY ALOT OF YOUR EXPENSES

You must have taken a Joe Polish course...........what a dumb dumb he is.............but not too dumb 'cause he finds alot of people like you to give him your money

lol...you guys are a trip!

First off....if the two of you upsell your services....lol....I am sorry to have offended you.

Secondly...all that upselling does is give the carpet cleaning industry a bad name....

I bet that you go into your customers houses at 4.95 per room and try to slam them for a bill of $1000 for 5 rooms and a hall.

lol....I would like to see your customer turn over rate....in the 90's I bet!

NR cutpile is not the natural sales man you are....  That why he says don't upsell...

there are peole that can... and there are people that can't

cut is one that can't... upselling a call in no way is ripping a customer off as long as you provide the service.

Upselling doe's NOT give CC'ing a bad name....If the customer agrees and wants protector or whatever and they ok the price it's all good.

How is that giving us a bad name....????

Unless you didn't tell them the price first and hit'em with a large invoice....

Posted By: Advantage
Date Posted: 19/December/2005 at 7:30pm

I think he's talking about the bait and swichers.

To them prespraying with plain water is an upsell.

"Oh you want me to suck some of that water out?  That'll be and extra charge."

Not upholstery, tile, carpet repairs, area rugs, protectant, and the like that we consider upsells.

Wow.... I really got a lot of you pretty upset...huh?....lol....that is funny!

If you are talking about upselling being additional services such as upholstery....additional rooms....scotchgard....then YES....this is good!

If you are talking about going in at $4.95 per room...charging $50 per room to add soap....charging another $20 per room to deodorize it.....AND THEN DO IT ALL WITH A PORTABLE.....I do not care which way you flip it....you are TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS!....if that's what you want to call them.

This is not upselling... I think you have it confused with false advertisment, misrepresentation basically the misleading of the customer.

the big bait and switch

it has nothing to do with providing additonal services above the quoted price

Posted By: nightrider

I know there will be those of you calling me all kinds of names but here is another gimmick I used to to.

I would always request that the customer vaccuum their carpet to the best of their abilities, going over the carpet up to 5 times if they like...........and for doing such a great job of vaccuuming I would offer them a free gift ( usually a set of steak knives, 50 % restaurant & movie passes, or table setting accessories )

When I arrived there, guess what I was holding in my hand as I walked through the door ( and it wasn't my d**k) it was an Electrolux Vaccuum Cleaner ( $ 300.00 at that time ) brand new, and showed them just what their vaccuum missed even after 5 times of cleaning, and before the demo I passed their vaccuum 2 more times on a given area of their choice. You should see their faces when they see all the crap I still picked up with the Electrolux.

BUT.......that's not what I wanted to sell them........my trick was I had a contact with an Electrolux dealer and purchased all the refurbished used ones from him at a cheap price and knowing that $ 300.00 was alot of money, I would offer them a used one for $ 150.00 and made $ 100.00.
