It's very gross. One time I was called in to clean up a bloody mess. In this case, it was my job to cut out the bloody carpet and pad, bleach the concrete under it and then dispose of the bloody carpet.
It wasn't a murder but there was a death. Yuk.

I took jobs like this twice.
1. Friends fighting inside an apartment. small blood drops here and there. Big headache and time consuming. Regreted taking the job.
2. A guy drove his new Mercedes and hitted a light pole. His feet was injured. He dropped blood here and there because of poor wrapping. I double the regular carpet cleanign price, the job is very easy because he dropped blod within several hours.

I took my course through CDR, IICRC doesn't off this course yet, at least they didn't when I took the course. And it's very interesting work, not as bad as you may think.

You have a goldmine if you are an IICRC firm with those specialties and both the insurance companies and carpet mills enlist your services. Your client was scamming to save a buck, either because his/her insurance didn't cover this kind of thing (if she has any) or she figured she could get the work done for less than the deductible.
That's how I see it. |

Oh..I passed on the deal. I found it to be very interesting though. Seems as if you where properly trained, and focused on that end of the business, you might have a gold mine.

There's your volunteer, ready to do it for minimum wage. I hope he knows more about sport equipment than he knows about hazmat or he's not long for this world. |

There is ONLY one way to do this job.
PROPERLY.
And that means experience.
If you dont have it give the job to someone who does.
This is as far away from being a job for a carpet cleaner as it gets.
DO NOT BE STUPID.

There is alot involved with doing this type of work. Proper PPE for one. If any thing is going in the garbage, anything with blood has to go in Bio waste the rest goes in garbage. So if you have a matress with blood on it, you will have to cut out the areas affected with blood and seperate affected & unaffected. By the way it cost 100 bucks a lb to properly dispose bio waste. I wouldn't even try cleaning carpet or furniture, you'd be surprised how much blood is under there. If you want the smell gone all the blood must be gone. You may want to sub this out, unless you have time to take a course in Trauma Scene Clean Up. This is very time consuming as well 1 bedroom took me 2days thats cuting up sheets blankets the matress box spring removeing some of the tile floor cleaning sealing etc etc. Tell your client to maybe call her insurence company they may cover it. This type of work is not cheap. Hope this helps.
