Just drove one of our IICRC school attendees to the airport this morning. he has forty janitorial employees and does approx. 20% of his business cleaning carpets. He was overly impressed and admitted to me he has been cleaning carpets for 15 years incorrectly.
I think cleaners in large cities have the availability of learning from educated suppliers for free. Cleaners in smaller cities or areas who do not have this info available to them on a constant basis simply eat up and sponge up the info available at an IICRC course. It may not be perfect for everyone but it's the best we have and better than nothing.
P.S.
I asked an IICRC attendee one time what he felt was the best he was taking home with him after the course. His answer was he ate lunch with another cleaner who he figured was ten times as less knowledgeable as he was yet he charged three times more.
