I ate alot of bread because it was easy to reconize over some of the other things or stuff they offer on the menu. I just thought it was the safest bet, mind you in the evenings there was usually a kind of buffet or assortment of sandwiches, cold cuts, pickles, celery sticks, that kind of crap. Most would pig out on that while they watch T.V. Naturally there was a canteen that passed by every so often with stale cakes and dried up cigarettes for those who smoked. I used to get good cigarettes from the outside and trade them for favours, or extra books from the library. Real fun place, not planning a return visit any time soon. What a difference a wall makes. The only excerise you get over there is a healthy workout of neck muscles, 'cause you're always looking around to see if someone's sneaking up on you in the yard. The trick is walk 7 steps then look around, next 5 steps, look around, 3 steps, then look around, and then start over with another set of variables. I did excerise in my cell, but did not go to the weight room. Personally I think the system is all wrong, they just create stronger and leaner criminals, they should send the guards and police to excerise and the criminals all to Duncan Donuts.
