I got a reply to my question at Mytee regarding their AirHog.  My question was this.  "
does the water hog work with my unit and if so what is the
configuration? I mean the extractor is using a 1 1/2\" 25\' hose and
the idea is to get as close to 100\' as possible. How long a hose goes
from wand to booster, is it 2\", and then what about the hose going from
the 1001HV to the booster? Wondering how it differs in performance with
the cross-america unit."

I asked about the wrong unit in the question but I got the skinny straight from their company rep.

"Mike

I believe you are talking about the AirHog. These vacuum boosters were
specifically designed to be used with our cold water extractors. The
issue with using them with our hot water units is base capacity to plumb
the exhaust. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank You

So theirs will NOT work with heated units. Ed's has no such restriction I bet.

So much for the METOOS of the world.

And thank you for chiming in, Ed.

I was asked to respond to all the remarks above however, due to time restrictions (very busy here), and not to give away too darn much in terms of design (for the cloners out there always listening) , I will only say this:

WE INVENTED the POWER BOOSTER (hummm, they even stold the name) System that was field tested in 1972-3 and awarded a patent in 1980. WE KNOW WHAT WORKS and this is why the cloners constantly try to ride our coattails.
Most importantly, a "copy" is never the same, period. Too many examples so I will not waste my time.

Friendlyhammer is correct in his statement of 3 stages-IF- they are designed properly and within the system.

I will hold on any critizism or comparison because I hope 'they" continue to clone what they think is the same or better.

hummmmmm. Thanks for this opportunity,

Ed Valentine

Never mind what I just said. I just looked at the configuration of the Air Hog with the Mytee extractor and realized that they are configured differently than I had anticipated. The way they have them configured will work as they described.

It's just that the weakest vacuum in a system sets the level of waterlift. There's a guy that works for Steambrite named Donald that used to post on the Web, and he will confirm what I've said.  If you're going to get a booster, don't get one that weakens your waterlift. It should have 1 or 2 3-stage vacuums in it so that it can work with any machine and not weaken the waterlift. If I owned a Airhog, I would put the vacuums in a series, because I don't use 2 stage units, except for cleaning chairs and sofas. Right now the vacuums in the Airhog are in parallel.

So the mytee airhog is a cheap knock off.  All the talk is about how good the CA unit is.  I now see why.

I have heard great things about the one from Cross-America.  When did mytee start making one and who has a comparative chart on these two?

I just checked steembrite's site.  The mytee looks like a limited solution, limited to 3 specific models.

  • The Air Hog can be combined with the Mytee 1000DX, 1000DX-200, or M-16 models.
  • When paired up with one of the Air Hog compatible units, the result is 4 high performance two-stage vacuums, delivering 200 C.F.M at a blistering 180" of water lift (12.5" of mercury lift.)
I haven't see limits like that with the cross-american unit.

That info concerning the affects of the airhog are incorrect. You should see a doubling of cfm and perhaps a marginal increace in waterlift, if any.

The CA unit will have about 300 cfm and higher waterlift. Again, it is better because it's a balanced system, not to mention that if you own a Mytee you know that you pay a huge amount in labor because of those small tanks.

again, who has a comparison chart?  And does it matter that the extractor uses a 1 1/2" hose?  The reason I ask is Mytee is half the price of Ed's and I would take that to mean it lacks features and performance.

I am not particularly fond of Mytee.  I use a HILD shampooer as I have over the years (along with clarke, kent and franklin) and I take offense that mytee bought hild more for its good name and reputation than to continue making the products that came with that name or to service the customers that are represented in the reputation of Hild.

These days when someone says "you know the name" I am looking for the con game they are pulling.  Happened with Packard Bell, Bell & Howell and others.  Mytee promised to support the hild product line and then stopped carrying or making parts for anything of the former hild line.  I trust these guys like school girls trust old pervs offering them candy.

If anyone from Mytee is reading this and takes offense, I have been successful.

Extra boosters or vacuums with less than three stages are next to worthless. The weakest vacuum sets the waterlift for the whole system.

I know that you can add the Air Hog vacuum booster to any portable machine, if you don't have a Mytee (this is my case) you must to run 50 feet of hose from your machine to the booster and after that yo can add in line another 25 or 50 feet to the wand.
Now my question is what happen with your readings (water lift and cfm) when you add a booster. If you are running a porty with 2-3 stage vacuum (185" w. lift and 100 cfm) and the booster delivers 200 cfm more. There is a good balance between cfm and water lift. T
