I guess they would be the laughing stock of the industry if they did.

Wrong. I'm just being realistic. I use portables as well as truckmounts but it would be a tough sell for a national carpet cleaning company to say that their portable results are on par with those coming from truckmounts. 75% of this business is perceived impression.

So you perceive that a truckmount out performs every portable at cleaning carpet, setting aside the water and flood damage work?

A mid to high level TM outperforms any portable, period. This is not to say that you can not do excellent work with a powerful portable (relative of course) but you will never match the vac/heat power of a powerful TM.

Sometimes too much heat and vac is just a simple case of overkill.  Of course, some inadequately skilled operators need the excess just to come close to measuring up to their competition I guess.

I cant work @ no fast food joint i got some talent dont you get my point? Top rank point blank. After 26yrs i can take a kirby and get any carpet as clean as can be "The cleanest clean you've ever seen".. Mind you, the extra heat/vac makes me money faster and faster.
With a TM you can double double triple the cleaning and drying speed and money.Smokey
Be a pro do what ya know.

Did you not notice that I use both portables and truckmounts? Sometimes it doesn't matter which one you use but other times, the truckmount will do a better job. And I am talking about a much more powerful portable than any stock machine. Anything under 200 cfm's and 175" lift isn't going to stand a chance. You really need to get these two figures at least up to 250 or so on a portable. Stop crying like a jealous fool just because you cannot afford a truckmount. I don't think many in this business begin with a tm so most of us have been where you are. There isn't any reason for you to feel inferior and lash out like you do.

Some operators will have no choice soon but to get the most powerful portable they can buy to do their cleaning.

In the next few years we are going to have $10 to $15/gal gas in the USA. When that day arrives you can bet that most of the gasoline powered equipment will be expensive paperweights and the manufacturers of the equipment will shut their doors and find other things to do.Only those with the high powered electrics will be left standing. The Pentagon says this will be a reality($10 to $15 gas)by 2015, but I think you will see it happen before then. Not alot of time to prepare either way.

Agreed Ken.  Either portys or a better energy source.  And the way people go around with eyes wide shut, it looks like portys or OPs.
