Grout is more porous than tile, so it absorbs moisture, dirt, and cleaning residue much more easily. As foot traffic and daily use push debris into the surface, the grout lines darken faster than the tile around them. Sealing the grout helps slow this process, but regular cleaning is still important to keep it looking fresh.
